Where to find us and what to do...

Camps Heath Barn is situated on the very edge of Oulton Marsh. Oulton Marsh is part of Suffolk Wildlife Trust protected marshland along with its neighbouring area Carlton Marshes. The views from the Barn over the nature reserve are simply breathtaking, with the river Waveney and the broads only a short walk away.

There are some lovely river walks and public footpaths next to the Barn.  As we are on the edge of a nature reserve there’s plenty of choice for either a short walk down to the river and back.  Longer walks along the river, or through the woods or a walk to Somerleyton Village.  Maps and directions are available.

Oulton Broad:

Camps Heath is less than a five minute drive from Oulton Broad. You can also walk to Oulton Broad from the Barn if you don’t want to drive (about a 30min walk).

Oulton Broad is one of the largest broads and has a well kept park (Nicholas Everitt Park) and gardens overlooking the broads.  There is a children’s playground, boating lake and crazy golf.  In the summer months there are brass bands on the bandstand in the park.

The Broad is well used for sailing, powerboat racing (on a Thursday evening during the summer) and you can also fish from the river banks.  Day boat hire is available and there are daily river trips from Oulton Broad along the Southern Broads.

You will find food and gift shops and also a post office in Oulton Broad, and there are some good café’s, pubs and restaurants too.

Lowestoft

Lowestoft is famous for its award winning beaches with golden sands stretching for miles. Lowestoft South Beach is only ten minute drive from Camps Heath. Lowestoft South Beach has a long promenade with café’s, gift shops and amusement arcades.  At the end of the promenade is Kensington Gardens which has tennis courts, boating lake and bowling green.

Pakefield Beach is slightly further along from Lowestoft South Beach and this beach allows dogs throughout the year.  There are also traditional pubs, café’s and a local fish and chip shop along the cliff top.

Slightly further away:

Southwold (20 minute drive) Lovely walks, beaches, harbour and market town boutique style shopping.

Beccles (20 minute drive) Market town, shopping, broadland parks and an outdoor Lido open in the summer months

Norwich (45 mins drive or 45 min train Journey) Historic city excellent for shopping or a day out visiting attractions such as Norwich Castle.

Leaflets on local attractions can be found in each of the accommodation units and offers a wide range of information on places such as Somerleyton Hall, East Anglian Transport Museum, Pleasurewood Hills and Suffolk Wildlife Park.
